Harry Skoler
jazz clarinetist
She began studying clarinet for her middle school concert band. At age 13, she qualified for the TMEA High School Region Band where she discovered the works of John Mackey and Eric Whitacre. As a teen, she continued competing, as a clarinetist on the state-level, earning the privilege of 1st Chair Bb Clarinet in the 2015 ATSSB Texas All-State Band.
Her interest in composition flourished through her first experience in an orchestra as principal clarinetist of the 2014 and 2015 Honors Performance Series Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Both performances gave her a firsthand look at Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.4 and Mahler's Symphony No. 1 "Titan" which inspired her to pursue a career in music composition.
After a successful audition, she was awarded multiple scholarships to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where she pursued a dual-degree in Composition and Film Scoring with a minor in Conducting.
Through her studies at Berklee, she was principal clarinetist of the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra for the sold-out Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY concert at Boston Symphony Hall lead by EMMY®-nominated film/video game composer and conductor Arnie Roth in April 2019.
After a successful audition, Ana became an orchestra member for the 2019 Prague Summer Nights Music Festival in the Czech Republic.
